How Implants Work
A dental implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up. A small titanium post is placed into the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone over time to create a stable foundation. Once healed, a custom crown is attached on top, functioning and looking like a natural tooth. Because the post replaces the root itself, implants also help preserve the jawbone in a way that other replacement options don't.
Is an Implant Right for You?
Most healthy adults with adequate jawbone are good candidates for an implant, though factors like bone density, gum health, and certain medical conditions can affect candidacy. We'll evaluate your specific situation, including imaging of the jawbone, before recommending a plan. In some cases a bone graft is needed first to build up enough bone to support the implant.
The Process & Timeline
Implants are placed in stages: the post is placed first and given time to heal and fuse with the bone, typically a few months, before the crown is attached. The full process can take several months from start to finish, but each stage is generally straightforward. The result is a replacement tooth that's meant to function like your own for many years.
